STUDYING ITALIAN IS MEANINGFUL, USEFUL, TASTEFUL, HELPFUL...WONDERFUL!!!
Italian language and culture courses continue to grow in schools throughout the United States. Every year tens of thousands of students of all ages and backgrounds choose to study Italian. In a recent survey made by ACTFL 38% of the people interviewed chose Italian as a possible language to study.
Why Italian? Because this language and culture has so enriched the world with its art, music, fashion, food, literary masterpieces and oustanding scientists. Furthermore, Italy is a founding member of the EU, the G8 and the G20. Italy is a key ally to the U.S.; it harbors one of the highest number of NATO and U.S. bases in the world. Italy is the top non English speaking country destination for American students! "L’italiano è la quarta lingua più studiata nel mondo", Italian is the fourth most studied language in the world according to journalist Gasperetti in his article. ABOUT THE AUTHOR OF THE WEBSITE:
BIOGRAPHY E. Sileoni is a native of Italy. She was born and raised in Italy in the town of Pollenza (Le Marche Region) on the East side of Italy, on the Adriatic Sea. In 2009, Sileoni has started working as one an Italian instructor and Department Chair at Bates Middle School (Annapolis, MD). Sileoni graduated from Youngstown State University in 2005 with her Master’s in English, TESOL Certificate and her experimental thesis “Effect of Humor on Motivation in Foreign Language Learning” (click on the title to download thesis). After graduation, Sileoni has worked in both the interpreting/translating and teaching fields. In May of 2008, her translation (i.e. subtitles) appeared on the show “Prehistoric Megastorms” aired by the History Channel. In 2017, she worked as a Consultant with EMC Publishing and was published in the textbook "Amici d'Italia", presented at ACTFL in 2017. She has also worked as an instructor of the Italian and English languages in both Italy and several states of North America. Languages come easy, but teaching even more! Sileoni’s mothertongue is Italian. Her second foreign language is French. Her third foreign language is English. Her fourth is Spanish and she has also had three years in ASL.
